About Us
We're an amateur society dedicated to staging high quality productions of popular
musicals for the local community.
Our musical range covers the outrageously silly Gilbert
& Sullivan shows of the late 19th centuary (like Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado)
through many of the popular Broadway shows (Fiddler on the Roof, Calamity Jane, etc),
right up to more recent hits like Chess.
(Have a look at our Shows Directory for
stuff we've done recently... in fact every show we've ever done!)
We currently have over 100 members - fortunately we haven't all tried to get on stage at once...
it would be a little cramped! We generally stage two full shows a year, along with the occasional concert.
Some of us have been members for many years (it's rumoured that Tim Leete joined on returning
from the Boer War!) and many of us have shared weddings and major birthdays with fellow BHMTS'ers.
However we always welcome new members and it's great that we regularly have new faces.
Burgess Hill
is a thriving and rapidly growing town in the heart of the rolling Mid Sussex
countryside (the South Downs are clearly visible to the south) about 20 minutes
drive from the heart of Brighton and the sunny seaside!
> Check-out the town on Wikipedia.
We're also delighted to have a thriving Youth Section with fifty 8 to 15 year olds
learning all the basics of stage performance. They rehearse once a week for their own productions and for
some of the society's main productions like
"Oliver!", "Carousel", "Children of Eden" and in Spring 2008 "Disney's High School Musical".
