An urgent cat-call is going out from Burgess Hill Operatic Society after the feline star of their latest production caused a flap. Stig the cat has pulled out of their show, the hit musical Half A Sixpence, because of his animal instincts.

Owner Peter Barrett of Burgess Hill had high hopes that Stig would join the cast in the show running from next Tuesday to Saturday at The Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill. But when stig did not show for a photo call, it was decided to bring the curtain down on his stage debut.

Society member Ann-Marrie Forster said: "We don't know what we're going to do. We've not found a replacement yet. Stig has resigned because I don't think he feels he can turn up for the performances. His owner says he likes mousing and he runs off and forgets his commitments."

Now time is running out for a thespian kitty to fill the role of Edwin the cat who appears for only 20 seconds at the start of the show, held by the main character, played by Derrick Taylor. Ms. Forster said any cat owner who can help should contact her on 01444 250022.

"It could be a tom or a female - as long as it's happy to be held in someone's arms. It would be nice if it was house-trained. A member of the society brought along a cat which wasn't and it wasn't a pleasant experience!"

Half A Sixpence, directed by Bill Kirwan, will be performed daily at 7.45pm with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. For tickets ring 01444 242888.

Furry Star Search

"Burgess Hill Operatic Society have one important role still to be filled in their next show, Half A Sixpence.

The small but pivotal role of Edwin the Cat is sure to lickstart any feline's acting career and the furry thespian would only be needed for half an hour from 7:30pm to 8pm from October 6-10. If you have a docile, friendly cat, contact 250022 (day) or 417720 (pm)."
