Voted by Time Magazine as 'Musical of the CENTURY', "Carousel" is one of the all-time great shows. Created by the hugely successful partnership of Rodgers and Hammerstein, and first produced in 1945, it tells the story of fairground barker Billy Bigelow and Julie Jordan - bound together by a love for each other that neither can openly admit to.

Life is hard for the inhabitants of the small fishing community in New England, but they know how to enjoy themselves - especially when summer arrives and "June is bustin' out all over"!

Things start well for Billy & Julie, but tradegy strikes. The ending is sad, but uplifting - a good supply of tissues is highly recommended!!

On top of all the drama, the show is positively stuffed-full of increadible songs:

If I Loved You
Mister Snow
June Is Bustin' Out All Over
When the Children Are Asleep
Blow High, Blow Low
A Real Nice Clambake
What's The Use Of Wonderin'
You'll Never Walk Alone

Audience Feedback

We came to see your production of Carousel yesterday (Weds) & thoroughly enjoyed it. Particular praise to Bill Kirwin as Billy Bigelow - I thought his performance of the Soliloquy was excellent and not easy to sing by any means. He played the part with great emotion and certainly brought tears to my eyes at a number of points during the show. Well done to all the cast & crew.

Having just seen your Saturday matinee performance I would like to thank all concerned for putting on a great show. This was the second time in five weeks that I have seen Carousel, the other being staged at the Theatre Royal, Brighton, back in February. I can honestly say that there was very little to choose between the two shows with regard to the performances of the two casts and it is with great credit that the BHOS company matched the professional cast in Brighton. Once again thanks to all for a wonderful afternoon's entertainment. Keep up the good work, and here's looking forward to October and "Sugar".

If you have any comments about the show, e-mail them to webmaster@bhos.demon.co.uk
