"The Godfather's Gondoliers is a treat that you can't afford to miss!

(More thoughts from a selected few who saw a preview of the show.)

So, what's it all about?

After fifty one years, BHOS passed another landmark - our October 2003 production was a world premiere; albeit one with a 144 year old pedigree!

The Gondoliers is recognised the world over as one of Gilbert & Sullivan's greatest pieces of work, as Punch Magazine's first night review testifys . The show incorporates some of Sir Arthur Sullivan's most instantly recognisable tunes combined with a typically 'topsy-turvy' Gilbertarian plot.

The Godfather's Gondoliers utilises Sullivan's score, however the action has been removed from 16th century Europe and transported to 1950's America with the lyrics and libretto substantially rewritten by the society's very own Barry Goodsell (director of our acclaimed production of West Side Story). In essence the show takes the ingredients of the original but serves them up in a way that will appeal to all fans of Gilbert & Sullivan but also to those people who may not have enjoyed G&S shows in their traditional form.

(Please note: The Godfather's Gondoliers is in no way at all linked to "The Godfather"; neither Mario Puzo's best selling novel or Francis Ford Coppola's film trilogy. Any similarity and confusion that may occur between the two is purely intentional and we offer our sincere apologies to anybody who may be involved with "The Godfather".)
