| BHOS present Gilbert &
Sullivan's Ruddigore 2nd to 6th October 2001 - Martlets Hall, Burgess Hill Some Comments |
| "That was 'Ruddigore' as it should
be done - excellent." |
|
| "To be honest, I've never liked
'Ruddigore' as a show and I wasn't looking forward to coming, but I really
enjoyed it." |
|
| "What a pleasure it has been to
take part in another of your shows - as it always is. 'Ruddigore' is a
challenging show for both cast, director, MD and audience! What a marvellous
piece you have created. I have seldom seen a more imaginitive approach. My
'producer's' eye for detail was delighted by consistency such as the black and
white of act one and the silent movie theme - a masterstroke. Once again you
have a cast without weak link and the way you have got Sim [aka Barry Goodsell,
playing Sir Ruthven] to deliver subtle variations of dialogue and lyrics - a
difficult thing to do - is carried off with a skill which disguises the
complexity and challenge. The humour supplied by the off-the-wall aspects such
as the antipodean mariner work really well - don't take any sour grapes from
G&S traditionalists. A show to be really proud of - thank you for inviting
me to take part." Mike Wood (main music man at Oakmeeds Community College and our percussionist) |
